While growing up a boy scout, often going camping, James developed a deep love and respect for Nature at a young age. Sitting by crystal clear mountain lakes and rushing rivers shaped his outlook, values and world view. Connecting with Natures healing energy became one of James’ top priorities early on and this is still true today. Hiking in forests and along creeks in Topanga Canyon, Malibu and the Santa Monica Mountains is where you can find James on most weekends, recharging in Nature.

Pondless Waterfalls

A DreamScape Pondless Waterfall requires very little maintenance because they are designed and constructed with over 30 years of experience. You can turn a Pondless off for up to 8 hours at night, and still have healthy living water without algae. Come sit in the small pool we make in the middle of your stream!

Decorative Fountains

Fountains are simply awesome. They can be single and stand alone, or in large groups. DreamScapes loves to integrate Fountains into our natural water features as well. We install precast concrete fountains and all Aquascape products as well. Our specialty is working with their stacked slate orbs, urns, bowls and walls. Dreamscape Pond Building Process

Steps to Install a Koi Pond

Step 1. Initial Call

The first step in our process is to talk on the phone. A prospective client will text/email James a few pics or short video of the area where the water feature will go. Then James will call you and discuss your dreams and ideas, along with options (Pond, Pondless, Fountainscape and surrounding Landscaping, along with costs.

Step 2. Onsite Consultation

The second step is to meet together onsite for a walk and talk. James will take into account all factors involved in your space, including the views from inside and outside, accessibility for our equipment and materials, the architecture, privacy, trees and existing landscaping etc. The goal is to find the sweet spot between your wildest dreams and your budget. We will discuss the different types of water features that our clients can have, their costs as well as the surrounding Landscaping options as well. Once we come up with a design and price our clients want, then James will generate a detailed Project Description with each phase individually transparently laid out. This way, our clients can choose what they want to spend on certain phases, like planting, or lighting.

Step 3. Building Water Feature

The DreamTeam will show up on time, every day to install your unique project. We have all materials, rentals and porta potties delivered on day one to help everything go like clockwork. Once your Water Feature is created, we will turn our attention to the surrounding landscaping.

Step 4. Install Landscaping

Some projects need no landscaping at all, but on almost all DreamScape Water Features, we plant within and directly around the water feature. Then we install a new drip system to irrigate all of these plants. On other projects, there are extensive landscaping projects that we install in the outdoor living spaces. These include prefab or custom Arbors & Gazebos, Pathways & Patios, Decks & Fences, Lighting, Landscaping, Irrigation, Veggie Planters, Grading and Drainage.

Step 5. Inspect Pond Equipment and Finishing Touches

If our clients want fish, we let the ecosystem get established for 2 weeks and then we bring fish over to professionally introduce them into the water feature. We also inspect and adjust pond equipment like the pond pump, filters, lighting and irrigation system to make sure everything is working properly. We also adjust the positioning of the pumps, if necessary, to ensure optimal water circulation and filtration.

From the original vision consultation to project completion, the attention to detail we infuse into every project is unmatched. Unlike so many contractors who are focused on getting everything done as fast as possible, DreamScapes takes a different approach. Some projects have tall roaring waterfalls and some are simple streams that wind their way through a yard. Some locations have hills and others are flat, some easy to get to and others with difficult access. Every project we make will be tailored to each clients wishes and the space we are creating them within.

Landscape and Pond Lighting

Lighting is an extremely important part of any Pond and Landscaping project. We install low voltage, LED lights on a timer both outside and inside our Pond Projects. Path lights, Plant lights, Patio lights and Pond lights all seamlessly work together to create an outdoor paradise living space. On certain special projects, we even install Color Changing lights! The experience of a Pond at night with DreamScape lighting is totally different from daylight viewing and profoundly beautiful.

Pond Plants and Landscaping

We are different from other pond contractors. At DreamScapes, we believe the planting within and around each Water Feature is as important as the water feature itself. Our first step is to create a plant list for each unique project that we share with our clients. After reviewing the list, we are given feedback to help fine tune the plants that we will be working with. Then we create a project proposal that also includes not just plants, but (drip) irrigation for all of the plants we will install as well.
