Posted on Google na k We can’t say enough good things about James and Dreamscapes. From the start, James stood out from other contractors. He didn’t just take our ideas—he truly understood our vision and enhanced it with creative, thoughtful design suggestions. Unlike others who either didn’t follow up or only provided basic quotes, James delivered a complete, well-considered plan. His passion for landscaping and water features is obvious. He has a strong design eye and a talent for blending hardscape and softscape into a natural, cohesive outdoor space. That passion is backed by ongoing learning—he regularly attends industry-leading events like Pondemonium to stay current and improve his craft. While his estimate was higher than others, it reflected a much more comprehensive approach. This wasn’t just an installation—it was a fully designed outdoor living space with careful attention to grading, drainage, plant selection, and overall flow. The value was absolutely there. Communication throughout the project was excellent. James clearly explained each step, answered every question, and kept us informed from start to finish, which made the entire process stress-free. His crew was equally impressive—hardworking, detail-oriented, and committed even through extreme heat. James also treated them with genuine respect, often bringing them lunch, which spoke volumes about his leadership. We fully trusted James with plant selection, and the result exceeded expectations. Everything—from plants to stone to water features—fits together beautifully. We highly recommend James and Dreamscapes for anyone looking for a knowledgeable, creative, and trustworthy professional. The finished space has exceeded our expectations, and we couldn’t be happier with the result.Posted on Google Jeffrey Lulla We had an existing waterfall in our lower yard (we have hillside tiers) that was older and had a leak problem, so we hadn't been able to use it. We met with James and discussed the possibility of extending the top of our waterfall and re-routing it so it could be seen from our upper yard, and then feed back into the existing water feature. James and his team did an amazing job - they exceeded our expectations on a very tricky application with artistry and vision! They also found and resolved the leak, added lighting, and places for plantings within the rock formations. They arrived on time every day, cleaned up before leaving each evening, and included us in the process along the way. We now have a magical series of waterfalls that sound and look so beautiful - we'll be spending much more time outside enjoying it!Posted on Google Brittany Breslauer James was outstanding from day one. His communication was exceptional, and he kept us informed through every step of the process. From helping us choose the perfect flowers to surrounding the waterfall to making sure we had input on every detail, we always felt heard and included. His team was just as impressive. They were hardworking, respectful, incredibly efficient, and left our backyard spotless every single day. You would never have known such a major project was taking place because they treated our home with so much care. Dreamscapes is one of those rare companies that actually delivers on every promise they make. The finished waterfall is beyond anything we imagined, and the entire experience was seamless from start to finish. We couldn’t recommend James and his team more. Trust me, just book them. You won’t regret it.Posted on Google Patrick Torsney James took an ugly unusable portion of our backyard and turned it into a focal point the yard. It was installed several months ago and the water is clear, the fish are healthy and everyone in the family has enjoyed the tranquil beauty of our waterfall and pond. The project came in on budget and on time.Posted on Google Cheryl Triplett We’re thrilled with the work DreamScapes did on our backyard hillside waterfall. James and his crew were professional, creative, and dedicated to making sure the final result was both beautiful and functional. James has a keen eye for landscape design and plant placement, which really brought everything together. They didn’t just redo the waterfall—they transformed it into a stunning focal point in our yard. Special thanks to Sal for his craftsmanship and attention to detail. The whole DreamScapes team was a pleasure to work with. What really sets DreamScapes apart is their ongoing care—James still checks in a couple of times a year to maintain and fine-tune the waterfall. Highly recommend DreamScapes!Posted on Google Laifun Chung I am a retired landscape designer and contractor and it was a wonderful collaborative design/build experience. From start to finish, it was a joy to work with James. He is a good listener and brought to the project a sense of meaning, artistry and technical prowess. He rose to, and surpassed every expectation. Every step was explained and executed as expected. His crew worked together like a choreographed dance. All 5 senses were seamlessly incorporated: sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch. He created sounds of a water symphony, from crescendos to pianissimos. The variety of textures, colors, shapes and fragrances in his choice of plantings are from the eyes and sensibility of an artist. Angel Falls is so organically integrated with the existing garden that it looks like it was always there, even on the day of delivery. I cannot recommend anyone higher than James of Dreamscapes. He truly delivers magic in a seamless, harmonious manner.Posted on Google Adi Iyer Dreamscape transformed our yard into an outdoor paradise with lush plants and beautiful water features that our kids and dogs all enjoy every day. James and his team are extremely professional, transparent and efficient and are completely different from any contractor I have ever worked with. I can’t recommend them enough!Posted on Google Joyce Taylor I cannot say enough good things about James and dreamscapes. He lives in Southern California and I live in Central California. We talked several times over the phone and he brought his crew up here and stayed three days and they work 10 hours a day. They completely deconstructed the old Waterfall and built a beautiful new one. I absolutely love it. He is so easy to work with. He took a video of all of the workings of the Waterfall so I would remember How to maintain the waterfall which mainly was putting bacteria to keep algae out of it. The week after he finished the Waterfall, he checked in with me a A couple of times that week to make sure everything was working. I would certainly absolutely recommend him to anyone that’s looking for any kind of waterscape. His design ideas are excellent and he can tell by talking with you what you’re looking for. I absolutely love the Waterfall he made for me and actually for my big dog who likes to go in there and drink the water and he now has a new water bowl that falls off the rocks that he just loves. I hope you read all of this because if you want anything beautifully done make sure you contact James with Dreamscape. In Encino, California.Posted on Google Michelle Schwartz James is a consummate professional. His knowledge of landscaping is unparalleled and I’ve never met anyone that cares for his work more. His attention to detail is outstanding. I’ve worked with him several times with many different projects and I Highly recommend.Posted on Google Benjamin Levi Dreamscapes has made two gorgeous water features for my home over 7 years ago and still runs perfectly and now today I met with James again from Dreamscapes to modify one of the waterfalls to make it bigger. He is very knowledgeable and great with landscape design and knows all his plants and trees and what works best for your landscape and environment. Would not choose anyone else for the job

What is a recreation pond?
How do recreational ponds keep water clean?

Filtration Types: Biological, Mechanical & Natural
- Wetland Filtration System: is an extremely powerful tool used to clean and bio-filtrate large amounts of LIVING water. Water is channeled upward through successively smaller layers of rock/gravel and as it does, it experiences a 92% reduction in velocity. As a result, all of the sediments and nutrients that algae feeds on are removed from the water and they drop down to the bottom of our filter. We plant special bog plants in the filter and they feed off of the nutrients in the wetland, creating a balanced ecosystem.
- Biofilters: These contain beneficial bacteria that break down organic waste, converting it into harmless substances.
- Plant Zones: Plants absorb nutrients and provide habitat for microorganisms that further purify the water.
- Natural Circulation: Water is continuously circulated to prevent stagnation, which reduces the chance of bad algae growth and maintains oxygen levels.
- Sunlight and Air Exposure: UV rays from sunlight also play a role in keeping the water free from pathogens by naturally sterilizing it.
- Pre-Filtration: Water first passes through a mechanical filter to remove larger debris such as leaves and insects.
- Skimmers and Settling Chambers: Skimmers capture floating particles, and settling chambers allow heavier particles to sink and be removed.
Safe, Easy Entry and Exit Points Are a Key Design Feature
- Traction-Enhanced Surfaces: The materials used at the entry and exit zones are specifically chosen for their non-slip properties. This provides excellent traction and reduces the likelihood of slips and falls.
- Gentle Slopes and Steps: Gradually sloped areas and well-designed steps make entering and exiting the water easier, especially for children and older adults.
- Handrails and Safety Railings: Large natural ponds can include strategically placed and inconspicuous handrails which offer additional support, further ensuring safety.
- Dedicated Ingress and Egress Areas: Water features can have clearly designated spots for entering and leaving the water. This reduces congestion and minimizes the risk of accidents.
From the original vision consultation to project completion, the attention to detail we infuse into every project is unmatched. Unlike so many contractors who are focused on getting everything done as fast as possible, DreamScapes takes a different approach. We take pride in our meticulous, methodical approach to every phase of Pond design and installation.

Pond Plants and Landscaping
We are different from other pond contractors in Los Angeles. At DreamScapes, we believe the planting within and around each Water Feature is as important as the water feature itself. Our first step is to create a plant list for each unique project that we share with our clients. After reviewing the list, we are given feedback to help fine tune the plants that we will be working with. Then we create a project proposal that also includes not just plants, but (drip) irrigation for all of the plants we will install as well.
